Dr. Mitchell is widely respected for establishing innovative, cross-cultural educational programs and outreach activities that promote women's education, empowerment, and leadership development in the U.S., the United Arab Emirates, and Afghanistan.

During 2004-2005, Dr. Mitchell served as a special consultant to the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education in Kabul, Afghanistan. Her historical contributions assisted the post-9/11 Afghan government in reconstructing Afghanistan's education system.
