Widows Research and Support Center, Kabul PDF Print E-mail
In June 2007, the Ministry of Justice registered FSR in Kabul. This means, the government in Afghanistan has formally approved FSR's intentions to conduct business throughout Afghanistan.

FSR's program and widows' research and support center in Kabul operates under the name: Afghan Women’s Social, Cultural and Development Organization at Qalai Fathullah, in front of the Madina Bazaar.

In order to expand our programs, and maximize in-country resources, we are also in the process of registering with the Ministry of Women's Affairs, and the Ministry of Economy.

FREMONT REFUGEE EDUCATION AND EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM

East Bay Agency for Children (EBAC) has been awarded a three-year U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement grant to assist Afghan refugees in Fremont.

EBAC will work in partnership with the Foundation for Self-Reliance (primary partner), the Afghan Coalition, City of Fremont Human Services Department, and other individuals and groups within the Afghan community, to provide Project FREE (Fremont Refugee Education and Empowerment), offering a broad range of services within the Afghan community. FSR Literacy Program in Kabul PDF Print E-mail
Zuhra, our FSR Literacy Program coordinator in Kabul, is a professional teacher and war widow with four children.

In October 2004, when she applied to our Grants for Self-Reliance (GSR) program, Zuhra had a dream. She wanted to use her teaching skills to begin a literacy course for poverty-stricken widows in Kabul.

Grants for Self-Reliance PDF Print E-mail
Launched in August 2004, our Grants for Self-Reliance (GSR) program is a microgrant and personal independence coaching project. We work one-on-one with impoverished widows and their children who have been repatriated to Afghanistan. It is one of our most challenging, yet successful and rewarding programs.
