Information: As an Afghan certified nurse-midwife, Rahela served as a Health Prevention Outreach Counselor for the Ministry of Health in Afghanistan, and was an instructor for the Post-Basic Nursing School in Kabul, Afghanistan.

During the Taliban regime, Ms. Pairasta worked covertly as an anti-gender apartheid activist in Afghanistan and Pakistan for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the Saudi-Arabic Red Cross.

Ms. Pairasta immigrated to the SF Bay Area in 1987, and quickly earned her CNA. Since her arrival to America, she has been actively assisting other Bay Area Afghan refugees and war widows in Afghanistan.

As a welfare-to-work mother, she founded the Fremont Mohammadia Islamic and Cultural Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. She is a Self-Sufficiency Counselor and Case Manager for the Housing Authority of Alameda County, and previously served as a counselor for the Jewish Family and Children's Services of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin, and Sonoma Counties.
