Information: Melanie is the founding director of FSR. As a UC Berkeley Regents' scholar, she graduated summa cum laude, in 2005, with an American Studies Citation and a concentration in Race, Gender, Ethnicity, and Public Policy. Her undergraduate research and activism led to the formation of the Foundation for Self-Reliance.

During 2006 - 2008, Melanie mentored a team of SF Bay Area Afghan American youth who eventually became the new leaders of FSR in June 2008.

As an FSR advisor and co-managing director, she continues in her role as an FSR mentor.

Her present-day doctoral work as an Afghan Diaspora/American Immigration scholar at UC Berkeley, will continue to help shape and reshape FSR's many projects and services.
